Bears Announce Update on Caleb Williams Ahead of Packers Playoff Matchup
Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears are preparing to host the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, January 10, in a win-or-go-home playoff showdown. With elimination on the line, only one of the two historic franchises will move forward. Chicago has reached the NFL postseason in the first season under new head coach Ben Johnson, and while making the playoffs is an achievement, the Bears are eager to push deeper into January.
Williams has played a key role in Johnson’s rebuilding project. Following Chicago’s Week 16 victory over Green Bay, the rookie quarterback praised his leadership, telling reporters, “I’ve got the best coach in the world.”
He continued by crediting the entire staff, saying the Bears have the best coaching group in football. Williams explained that when talent is paired with coaches who care and believe, anything is possible. That confidence, he said, carries over onto the field, strengthening trust between players and coaches and leading to positive results.
In that Week 16 matchup, Williams completed 19 of 34 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 30 rushing yards on three attempts, according to NFL statistics. The question now is whether he can produce a similar performance when it matters most on Saturday night.
Bears Release Caleb Williams Milestone Ahead of Green Bay Clash
Chicago closed out the regular season at home against the Detroit Lions, falling 19–16. Despite the loss, Williams still delivered a standout performance.
On Monday, January 5, the Bears announced that Williams had broken the franchise’s single-season passing record during the Lions game. The team celebrated the achievement on social media, posting that history had been made. Fans quickly joined in, with some calling him the best quarterback in Bears history and others predicting many more records to come.
The organization also revealed on X that Williams finished the regular season with 3,942 passing yards.
Chicago and Green Bay Set to Open the Postseason
There’s plenty of excitement surrounding the Bears, as this wild-card appearance marks the franchise’s first playoff berth since 2020.
As the NFC’s No. 2 seed, Chicago will host its longtime division rival, the No. 7 seed Green Bay Packers, in the opening round of the playoffs. The game is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. ET.
Elsewhere in the league, the Seattle Seahawks secured the NFC’s top seed following their January 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers, while the Denver Broncos earned the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
After wild-card weekend, the divisional round begins on January 17, featuring two games at 4:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Additional matchups will follow on January 18 at 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
The AFC Championship Game is scheduled for January 25 at 3 p.m., with the NFC Championship later that day at 6:30 p.m. The Super Bowl will be played on February 8 at 6:30 p.m. on NBC.
For the Bears, the path is clear. They are just two wins away from reaching the biggest stage in football. The first step on that journey is finding a way past the Packers.
