Miami basketball confirms the addition of two prospects in the 2025 class.
On Friday, Miami officially announced the additions of forward Timotej Malovec and point guard John Laboy to its 2025 recruiting class. Laboy is the third high school player in Miami’s 2025 class, which ranks 19th in the 247Sports rankings. Malovec is one of two international players in the 2025 Miami class, alongside 6’10”, 270-pound Turkish center Salih Altuntas.
Laboy, a three-star recruit from Houston, Texas, and St. Francis Episcopal School, is ranked as the 51st point guard nationally and 39th overall in the Lone Star State. As a senior, Laboy improved most of his stats, posting career-best averages of 14.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.
In 37 games during the 2024-25 season, Laboy shot 45.4 percent from the field, 71.9 percent on free throws, and 30.8 percent from three-point range. According to a Miami press release, Hurricanes head coach Jai Lucas mentioned that he has known Laboy and his family through their shared connections in Houston.
Standing 6’2″ and weighing 180 pounds, Laboy will add depth to Miami’s backcourt and serve as a developmental player for the future. Miami had previously signed four-star prospects small forward Shelton Henderson and combo guard Dante Allen, along with Altuntas and Malovec.
Malovec is a 6’8″, 180-pound forward from Slovakia who competed for Mega Superbet in the Adriatic Super League first division. Over 30 regular season games, he averaged 6.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, shooting 44.1 percent from the field, 36.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 84.4 percent from the free throw line.
Henderson is expected to be a potential starter for Miami during the Hurricanes’ first season under coach Lucas. Allen may find a role toward the end of Miami’s rotation as a freshman in 2025-26. Altunas, Laboy, and Malovec offer Lucas and the Miami basketball program promising developmental talent for the future.
For the 2025-26 season, Miami signed six transfers from five Power Conference schools. Center Ernest Udeh Jr., power forward Malik Reneau, and guards Tre Donaldson (point guard) and Tru Washington (shooting guard) are anticipated to be starters. Combo guard Jordyn Kee and power forward Malik Allen provide additional depth to the roster.
