The Dallas Cowboys have been dealt a major blow just days before their season opener, as star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has reportedly informed the team that he will not be participating in the game against the Cleveland Browns on September 8.
Lamb, who has been a key member of the Cowboys’ offense for the past several seasons, has been embroiled in a bitter contract dispute with the team for much of the offseason and has reportedly grown frustrated with the team’s unwillingness to meet his demands.
“CeeDee Lamb is fed up with the Cowboys,” said one league insider.
The impasse between Lamb and the Cowboys has been a major source of frustration for both parties, with the receiver reportedly seeking a long-term deal that would make him one of the highest-paid wideouts in the NFL.
Despite the team’s efforts to negotiate a contract that would satisfy Lamb’s demands, the two sides have been unable to come to an agreement, leading to the receiver’s decision to hold out from the team’s opening game.
“CeeDee Lamb wants to get paid, and he’s not going to play until he gets what he deserves,” said one Cowboys insider.
The absence of Lamb is a significant setback for the Cowboys, who were counting on the star receiver to provide a spark in their offense and help lead the team to a strong start in the new season.
With Lamb out of the lineup, the Cowboys will need to rely on other players like Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup to carry the load in the passing game, which could prove to be a challenge against a tough Browns defense.
“The Cowboys can’t afford to lose CeeDee Lamb,” said one NFL analyst.
As the Cowboys look for ways to fill the void left by Lamb’s absence, the team’s front office and coaching staff will be under pressure to find a solution that can keep the team competitive and prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.
With the season opener looming and the clock ticking down, the Cowboys may be forced to make difficult decisions about their roster and their approach to contract negotiations, in order to avoid a prolonged and damaging standoff with Lamb.
“The Cowboys need to find a way to make this right, or they could be in for a long and difficult season,” said one NFL insider.
