College basketball fans were startled to find that highly regarded Kentucky Wildcats player Ugonna Onyenso had declared his retirement from the sport just before his college career was about to begin.
Onyenso, who had been regarded as one of the country’s top talents and was expected to be a first-round choice in the NBA Draft, explained his decision in a passionate statement uploaded on social media. “This was not an easy decision to make, but I have decided that it is in my best interest to retire from the game of basketball,” Onyenso told reporters.
