Poles, who has been with the team for just over a year, made the announcement in a press conference following the Bears’ recent loss to the Detroit Lions. He stated that the team had decided to move on from Bagent after evaluating his performance and potential for growth.
“We appreciate everything that Tyson has done for the Bears, but we believe that it’s time to go in a different direction,” said Poles.
While the decision to part ways with Bagent may come as a surprise to some, many in the NFL community believe that it was inevitable, given the quarterback’s struggles this season.
Bagent, who was drafted by the Bears in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, had been expected to compete for the starting quarterback position but failed to impress coaches and teammates with his performance in training camp and during the preseason.
“Tyson just never seemed to find his footing with the Bears,” said one NFL analyst. “He showed flashes of potential, but ultimately, he wasn’t able to put it all together.”
With Bagent now out of the picture, many are wondering what the Bears’ quarterback situation will look like moving forward. Some believe that the team may look to the draft or free agency to find a replacement for the struggling Justin Fields, who has also struggled to live up to expectations since being drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
“The Bears have a lot of work to do to fix their quarterback situation,” said one NFL insider. “They need to find someone who can provide stability and leadership, and who can help them win games.”
As the Bears look to the future, many are hoping that they will be able to find a quarterback who can lead them back to the postseason and restore the team’s once-proud legacy.
“The Bears have been a laughingstock in recent years, but they still have a lot of passionate fans who want to see them succeed,” said one Chicago sports columnist. “They need to make some smart moves and invest in the right people if they want to turn things around.”
With the Bears facing an uncertain future at quarterback, many are eagerly awaiting to see what moves the team makes in the coming months.
