HERE WE GO: All-NBA point guard Tyrese Haliburton leaves Indiana Pacers as he will play in Phoenix Suns, agreement done.
In a blockbuster trade that has shaken up the NBA landscape, All-NBA point guard Tyrese Haliburton has been traded from the Indiana Pacers to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for a package of players and draft picks, with sources confirming that the deal has been finalized and that Haliburton will join the Suns’ roster in time for the start of the regular season.
Haliburton, who was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie team in 2020 and has emerged as one of the league’s most dynamic and exciting young guards, had spent the past two seasons with the Pacers and had established himself as a key contributor on both ends of the court.
The trade to the Suns represents a significant opportunity for Haliburton, as he will be joining a team that is widely regarded as one of the most talented and ambitious in the NBA and is expected to contend for a championship in the coming seasons.
The Suns, who have been in search of a star guard to pair with superstar forward Kevin Durant and sharpshooting forward Devin Booker, are hoping that Haliburton will be the missing piece that helps them achieve their championship aspirations and cement their status as a dominant force in the league.
“Tyrese Haliburton is an exceptional young talent, and we are thrilled to add him to our roster,” said Suns general manager James Jones in a statement. “He is a perfect fit for our system and will help us compete at the highest level.”
The trade is also a significant coup for the Suns, as Haliburton had been heavily pursued by several other teams in the NBA and had been widely considered to be one of the most desirable players on the trade market.
The Suns were able to beat out several other suitors for Haliburton’s services, including the Los Angeles Clippers and the New York Knicks, who had reportedly offered similar packages of players and draft picks for the young guard.
“The Suns were aggressive and persistent in their pursuit of Tyrese Haliburton,” said one NBA executive.
