REPORT: Sergio Perez come to Verstappen’s rescue, “now we are not competitive”.
In a stunning admission by Red Bull Racing driver Sergio “Checo” Perez, the Mexican driver has conceded that he and his team are “not competitive” in the fight for the Formula One Drivers’ Championship, expressing his frustration with the team’s lack of success in recent races.
Perez, who had been expected to provide a strong challenge to his teammate Max Verstappen and the Mercedes and Ferrari drivers in the championship hunt, has struggled to find consistent success on the track and has fallen behind in the standings.
The admission by Perez comes as a surprise to many in the F1 community, as Red Bull had been widely regarded as one of the strongest teams in the field and had been expected to mount a serious challenge for the championship.
However, Perez’s struggles have become a source of concern for the team, as he has been unable to provide the level of support that Verstappen needs to compete with rival drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
“Sergio Perez has not been able to help Max Verstappen the way we had hoped,” said one Red Bull insider.
The struggles of Perez have also fueled speculation about the future of his relationship with Red Bull, with many observers suggesting that the team may consider replacing him with a more competitive driver if he continues to underperform.
Despite his recent struggles, however, Perez remains optimistic about his chances of turning his season around and helping the team achieve its goals, expressing his confidence in the Red Bull car and his belief that he can still make a positive impact on the team’s fortunes.
“I believe in myself and in this team,” said Perez. “We will find a way to win.”
The news of Perez’s comments about the team’s competitiveness has also raised questions about the direction of Red Bull Racing as a whole, as the team has faced criticism in recent years for its aggressive and often controversial approach to driver management and personnel decisions.
Some in the F1 community have suggested that Red Bull’s focus on Verstappen as its primary driver and its willingness to sacrifice the performance of other drivers in order to maximize his chances of success may be detrimental to the team’s overall performance and reputation.
“Red Bull has to find a better balance,” said one F1 analyst.
