SAD NEWS: Adonai Mitchell will miss Thursday’s preseason final between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Indianapolis Colts.
There was disappointment for fans of the Cincinnati Bengals and NFL fans alike as it was announced that promising young receiver Adonai Mitchell will miss Thursday’s preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts due to a sudden illness.
Mitchell, who has impressed in training camp and preseason action with his speed and sure hands, has reportedly been struck with a non-COVID illness that will prevent him from taking the field.
“We are obviously disappointed that Adonai won’t be able to play on Thursday,” said Bengals head coach Zac Taylor.
The news of Mitchell’s absence came as a surprise to many, as the young receiver had been one of the bright spots of the Bengals’ offseason, displaying a rare combination of speed, agility, and ball skills that had impressed coaches and fans alike.
“Adonai was really turning heads in camp,” said one Bengals insider. “He had the potential to be a real difference-maker for this team, so it’s a real shame that he won’t be able to showcase his skills on Thursday.”
While the Bengals will undoubtedly miss Mitchell’s presence on the field, they are not expected to make any major changes to their game plan in his absence.
“We’ve got a lot of weapons on offense, and we’ll be fine without Adonai,” said Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan. “We’ll just have to find ways to use our other players to make up for his absence.”
The Bengals will be hoping that Mitchell can make a quick recovery and return to action as soon as possible, as he is widely considered to be a key part of the team’s future plans.
Mitchell’s absence could also have implications for the Bengals’ roster decisions as the team prepares for the regular season, with some suggesting that it may create an opportunity for other young receivers to step up and earn a spot on the 53-man roster.
“Every opportunity is an opportunity for someone else,” said Bengals wide receivers coach Troy Walters. “We’ve got a lot of talented young players on this team, and someone is going to get a chance to show what they can do in Adonai’s absence.”
