SAD NEWS: Indianapolis Colts have confirmed quarterback Anthony Richardson’s catastrophic injury in the preseason finale, which may land him…
Last night, the Indianapolis Colts announced that rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson had suffered a catastrophic injury in the preseason finale versus the Cincinnati Bengals. Richardson sustained the injury in the second quarter of the game when he was sacked by Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard. Richardson quickly gripped his knee in anguish and was assisted off the field by team trainers.
Following a battery of testing, the Colts determined that Richardson had sustained a ruptured ACL, MCL, and PCL in his left knee, necessitating surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period.
The news was a devastating blow for Richardson, who had been hoping to make an immediate impact in his rookie season with the Colts.
The Florida product was drafted by the Colts in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he had impressed coaches and teammates alike with his arm strength, mobility, and leadership qualities.
“Anthony was a special talent,” said Colts head coach Frank Reich. “He had the potential to be a game-changer for us, but now we’ll have to wait for him to heal and see what happens.”
The injury was also a major setback for the Colts, who were counting on Richardson to reenergize their offensive following a poor 2022 season. The team had struggled at quarterback in recent years, and Richardson was viewed as a potential franchise savior, with his dynamic skill set and contagious personality creating hope in both fans and experts.
“This is really tough news,” said NFL Network analyst Kurt Warner. “Richardson showed so much promise, but we may not see him on the field for a long time. It is a big disgrace.”
While Richardson’s injury is undoubtedly a significant setback for the Colts, the team has vowed to support him throughout his recovery process and remain committed to his development as a player.
“We’re going to stand by Anthony every step of the way,” said Colts owner Jim Irsay. “He’s a great kid with a bright future, and we believe in him. We’ll be here to help him get back on his feet and get back on the field.”
