Collingwood’s 2026 Leadership Team Announced Ahead of AFL Season

The Collingwood Football Club has confirmed its leadership group for the upcoming 2026 Australian Football League (AFL) season, setting the tone for another competitive campaign as the Magpies aim to build on recent years of success.

At the centre of the group is captain Darcy Moore, who will lead the side for his fourth consecutive season in the role, providing continuity and experience at the top of Collingwood’s leadership structure. Vice-captains Nick Daicos and Brayden Maynard will once again support Moore, bringing a mix of youthful influence and seasoned grit to the team’s leadership core.

Moore, a stalwart of the club’s defence and a respected figure among teammates and supporters alike, has been instrumental in guiding Collingwood both on and off the field. His reappointment reflects the confidence the playing group and coaching staff have in his ability to steer the Magpies through the rigours of another AFL season.

Daicos, one of the rising stars of the competition, enters his second year as vice-captain. Since bursting onto the AFL scene, he has shown leadership qualities beyond his years — blending elite skill with an ever-growing influence among his peers. Maynard, on the other hand, brings a fearless competitive spirit into the leadership mix, with 2026 marking his third season as vice-captain.

New to the leadership group in 2026 is forward Lachie Schultz, who has earned his first senior leadership berth. Schultz’s elevation is seen as recognition of his work ethic, performance improvements and the respect he commands within the playing group. His journey toward leadership highlights Collingwood’s focus on preparing and acknowledging emerging leaders through merit-based progression.

Collingwood enters the 2026 season after a period of sustained list and leadership stability, with veterans and up-and-coming talents working together under senior coach Craig McRae. The club has also secured commitments from key players and staff — with stars like Steele Sidebottom and Jeremy Howe signing on for another year, ensuring valuable experience remains in the playing ensemble.

Off the field, Collingwood has continued its offseason preparations, confirming several administrative and playing list changes over the past months. Guernsey number changes were finalised as new players settled into their roles ahead of the campaign, ensuring squad readiness and cohesion through preseason.

And while leadership focus remains on performance and unity, the Magpies have also bolstered their broader football program, welcoming experienced figures into coaching and development roles who will help refine talent across both AFL and VFL pathways.

As the AFL pre-season ramps up, Collingwood’s clearly defined leadership framework — blending experience with fresh voices — provides supporters with strong optimism. It reflects a club intent on competitive consistency and cultural strength as the Magpies eye a deep run in 2026.
